Our New Hero

OUR NEW HERO…………..

Your air conditioner is on the fritz. You call your favorite HVAC company (you don’t say!!! It’s AMS Air Conditioning & Heating!!! 🙂 The technician tells you that your system is low on refrigerant and will need an infusion of approximately 5 pounds to operate smoothly. Best case scenario, your system is R-410 compatible and the technician will refill it at a cost.

Worst case scenario, you have a machine that predates 2012 and runs on the evil, outlawed ozone layer attacking refrigerant, R22. L You see, back around 2010-2012, R-22 was phased out in favor of R-410, a new environmentally friendly, albeit somewhat expensive refrigerant. “Okay,” you say, “we are used to paying a bit more to save our environment. Just use the R-410 on my system. I’ll take the heat in my pocket for the sake of the ozone.”

But what if we told you that you can’t use R-410 on a system that runs on R-22? You cannot convert an R-22 to an R-410 without replacing the evaporator, condenser and compressor and maybe even the copper lines connecting the components. Suddenly that heat in your pocket feels downright scalding.

HVAC companies have lamented this phenomenon for the past 5-6 years. The look on their customers’ face when they have to break the news to them that the R-410 will not operate in their system without major costly changes is enough to make even the most devoted, experienced HVAC technician sweat. . . UNTIL NOW!!!!!!!!

It is our distinct delight to introduce all of you, our loyal Montgomery County customers, to our new hero, EPA approved, non-toxic and non-flammable refrigerant – R-424.

From Bethesda to Gaithersburg, Potomac to Silver Spring, Kensington to Rockville – this new refrigerant is making headlines all over the United States as an excellent new substitute refrigerant for R-22 systems. Now, why do we say the United States? Because R-424 has been used successfully in Europe for the past decade!

R-424 has been proven to lower energy consumption and operates at lower discharge pressure and temperatures, thereby reducing compressor workload. It can be used in R-22 systems without having to make the change to a more expensive synthetic oil.

Now, you may be thinking: “I’ll be running out to buy myself a 25 pound cylinder of R-424 today– I’ll be set for life!!!”

Wait!!! Although R-424 has been assigned an A-1 rating by ASHRAE (ASHRAE advances the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world), energy and refrigerant experts and manufacturers highly recommend that only trained HVAC professionals handle this or any other refrigerant. Please bear in mind that mixing refrigerants is ILLEGAL in North America. The EPA has mandated that all HVAC systems be totally emptied of the existing refrigerated by a certified technician before replacing refrigerant. AMS Air Conditioning and Heating is thrilled to bring this new product to our customers with R-22 compatible systems and to see the smile return to your faces. 🙂
